The events K1 covers

K1 covers festivals, private parties, student events, national sporting events and shows. They are different crowds, and they share a planning problem. Before the doors open, someone has to decide where people enter, who is allowed in, and what security does once they are inside.

A private party in a house or a hired room is often the guest list and the tone of the evening. A student event can turn on capacity, alcohol and a young crowd. A show or a festival adds stages, barriers and a perimeter. A sporting event adds a ground, a crowd and a timetable. On all of them the organiser’s brief comes first, then people are put in the roles that support it.

Security and stewarding are different jobs

You need a licence when someone guards against damage, theft, unauthorised access or disorder. That includes screening who may enter, searching people or bags, dealing with behaviour in a crowd, protecting a pitch or a stage, or patrolling a perimeter to stop people getting in. At licensed premises, while alcohol is being supplied or regulated entertainment is provided, that work needs a door supervisor licence. Contracted guarding elsewhere needs a security guarding licence.

You do not need an SIA licence only to point people to their seats, the toilets or first aid, to check a ticket without then refusing entry, or to keep a gangway clear. K1 will say which roles on your plan are security and which are stewarding. K1 is not an SIA approved contractor.

What a good brief contains

Send the date, the site, the start and finish, the numbers you expect, whether the public can walk in or only invited guests, where the alcohol will be, and who has the final say on the night. If there is a premises licence, a temporary event notice, or a ground safety certificate, say so. Those documents change which licence the team needs.

The useful standard is straightforward. Understand the evening the organiser wants, keep the entrance properly controlled, stay friendly with the people who were invited, and stay discreet once guests are inside. Rock on the Green and the Royal British Legion are clients, alongside Somerset Cricket Club and Rosslyn Park.

Officers arrive knowing what the event is, who is expected, and the role they have been given. Numbers, positions and the tone of the evening are part of that brief.

Access and guest management

A presence at the point of entry so the right people come in. That can mean invitations, tickets, guest lists, or a door policy the organiser has already written.

Cover inside the event

Once guests are in, the team can work discreetly: watching that the event stays as intended, and stepping in only when someone needs help or a situation needs dealing with.

Festivals, parties and shows

Festivals, private parties, student events and shows. The scale changes. The starting point is the organiser’s brief: where people enter, who is allowed in, and what security does once they are inside.

Sporting events

We also do sporting events. Somerset Cricket Club and Rosslyn Park are clients. The match-day role is agreed for that event.

The right licence for the role

Searching, refusing entry and guarding against disorder are licensable. Directing people to seats, toilets or first aid, on its own, is stewarding and is not. K1 separates those roles when the plan is agreed.
